Christ Church CE Primary School

Global Neighbours

The school has a deeply embedded global citizenship culture strongly committed to courageous advocacy and treating all people with dignity and respect.

Global Neighbours - August 2025

Our school is incredibly proud to announce that we have officially achieved the Bronze Award in the Christian Aid Global Neighbours accreditation scheme! In fact, the assessor was so impressed with our school that we were awarded Silver in the areas of 'Leadership, vision and values' and 'Teaching and learning'.

This award reflects the incredible work our children have undertaken to improve their knowledge and understanding of global issues, poverty, and climate justice. The accreditation scheme celebrates schools that are helping pupils learn about global poverty and our Christian responsibility to tackle it. It helps our school fulfil the Church of England’s vision of education that is ‘deeply Christian and serving the common good’.

At Christ Church, we aim to be ‘local, national and global citizens,’ and we want to give our children the tools and confidence to become global advocates for change in the world. The assessor's report praised our "deeply embedded global citizenship culture strongly committed to courageous advocacy and treating all people with dignity and respect".

We are thrilled that our children are developing as courageous advocates who realise that we can be agents for change right here and now. Our report highlighted how our pupils keenly initiate action, from setting up a school foodbank and uniform swap to our pro-active Eco Team leading a highly successful 'Safer Streets' initiative and advocating for greener travel. By exploring stories like the Good Samaritan and learning about the Stewardship of Creation, our children are identifying how key Christian teachings inspire us to tackle poverty and climate injustice. They know that, as a church school, we do these things because Jesus asked us to ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’.

To achieve this accreditation, we successfully demonstrated our outstanding commitment across five key areas:

  • Leadership, vision and values (Achieved Silver): Recognised for our embedded culture of global citizenship and our numerous awards, including several Eco-School awards and the Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence.

  • Teaching and learning (Achieved Silver): Celebrated for our extensive curriculum, our highly visible culture of anti-racism, and our meaningful links with schools in Uganda and New Zealand.

  • Collective worship and spiritual development (Achieved Bronze): Acknowledged for making themes of global citizenship, care for the world, and Christian values an integral part of our worship and spiritual reflection.

  • Pupil participation in active global citizenship (Achieved Bronze): Highlighted for our pupils' proactive engagement in projects like the Fairtrade and Sustainable Palm Oil project, as well as their charitable fundraising and environmental action.

  • Community engagement (Achieved Bronze): Commended for how our pupils actively share their learning and communicate their concerns to local decision-makers, leading to real community changes like our school foodbank and the installation of bike sheds.

The Global Neighbours scheme continues to support our school to:

  • Develop global citizenship and courageous advocacy.

  • Advance the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of our pupils.

  • Strengthen our promotion of fundamental British values.

  • Enhance our religious education (RE).

  • Promote critical thinking across the curriculum.

  • Strengthen links with the local community.
